History
The origin of the village name:
The village is called Fenyuan. Story tells that during Qing Dynasty, tobacco , Fen or Xun by Minnan dialect, was planted here, which accounts for the adoption of the name of Fenyuan, while at the first time, the name was Newly Fenyuan. However, the tobacco which was planted then was not the one people familiar with today but opium or opium poppy ( also called Ah Fu Rong or He Fu Rong). And when was the name of Fenyuan first used? By the textual research Mr. Hong Min Lin did, it is said that because during the period of Daoguang, there was no place which bore the name of Fenyuan, the name was likely to be used after that period. During the war between China and France which took place in the tenth year of the period of Guangxu (1884), business of all the ports in China were banned, which caused no merchantmen came to China and resulted in the shortage for opium. Therefore, the number of planters in Jia and Zhang began to rise. And the name of Fenyuan probably came into being during this period. So, the name shall have been used for about 110 years.
The Immigration of Han Chinese and Their Cultivation of the Land
The land was at first inhabited by the Mao Luo Society of the Family of Hoanya. In the early period of Kangxi of Qing Dynasty ( about A.D. 1660), Fujian people started to immigrant into and open up the land. In the 3 rd year of Yongzheng (1725), Wu Luo, a head cultivator, began his cultivation of the land, after which, people from Tong An County of Quan Zhou Fu started their exploration at Ba Gua Tai and established Tong An Cuo Zhuang, which was changed to Tong An Liao later.
The village is consisted of 15 hamlets. The administration office of the village located in Shekou hamlet. And from north to south, the other hamlets are Jiushe Hamlet, Dapu Hamlet, Zhulin Hamlet, Fenkeng Hamlet, Qielao Hamlet, Jiaxing Hamlet, Fenyuan Hamlet, Jinfeng Hamlet, Xianzhuang Hamlet, Zhengan Hamlet, Xitou Hamlet, Tong'an Hamlet, Zhonglun Hamlet, Dazhu Hamlet. And Jiushe Hamlet claims the largest area among the hamlets while Shekou hamlet the smallest.
The Perspective of the Village
The residential area of the village is included in the Zhanghua residential area. And it is village-centered in the aspect of administrative level, making itself a prototype of agriculture village, although with the transferring of industry formation that people who are engaged in the primary industry (including crop planting, foresting, fishing, herding and mining) are on the way to becoming the least in the 3 industry formations. Because the production of various kinds of fruits still claims a great number, the primary industry is no less important to the village than the other 2 industry formations. And the people who are engaged in the second level industry (including manufacturing, water 、 electricity and gas, and construction) make up of the main population of the village. However, compared with neighboring villages, only the food processing industry of flour producing plays a relatively more important role in the second level industry. As to the perspective of the village, efforts need to be made in the consolidation of the agricultural conditions and the attraction of workers in neighboring industry areas to select fine residential areas and settle down in the village so as to inspire business activities in the area.
As to the future development of economy, based on the existing conditions and limited factors of the village, it is a best option to combine local-oriented industry with sight-seeing industry. Especially, Tai 14 th Road and Tai 14 th Road Yi shall be constructed to be the artery of development, while the 139 th road of scenery spot of Ba Gua Mountain shall be the artery of sightseeing. And the hillsides between these two arteries shall be explored to be a leisurely sightseeing orchard; Fenkeng Rice Flour Special Areas shall be established in Fenkeng Hamlet; exhibition centers of agriculture products, wholesale centers of fruits and vegetables, and large shopping malls shall be set up in the areas which are designed to be cities to boost the development of business, agriculture, sightseeing, and residential industry, and to sketch an idea and hope of the development of the village.
