Xitou Hamlet

Geographical Postion:

Xitou hamlet is located at the southeast part of the village, about 4 to 5 km away from the village administration office, with an area of 1.95 square kilometers, with the town of Caotun of Namtou county on the east ,the other side of Mao Luo Stream, the city of Nantou on the south, Dazhu Hamlet on the west, and Zhengan Hamlet on the north. Xitou sits near the southwest edge of Central Basin, on the east slope of Ba Gua Tai and the west bank of Mao Luo Stream, with an altitude of about 80 feet. Mao Luo Brook flows northwards along the east side; Xitou parapet leads the water in Mao Luo Stream to the entire alluvial plan, including the district around Xitou, Zhengan, Xianzhuang and Jinfen Hamlets.

 

History of the Hamlet N ame:

During the period of Kangxi of Qing Dynasty, Yang Zhishen, the head director of Zhanghua, drew water from Baqixian Mountain in Zhongliao village of Nantou County, through the piedmont of Dahushan (now Zhongxin new hamlet) and Yuemeicuo (inside Cao Tun Town) to the front of Bishan Rock (inside Nantou City), and then along the east slope of Ba Gua Tai to the north till Kuaiguan, so that the local fields could channel the water in Mao Luo Stream to the upper part of upper and lower parapets of Xitou area. So it is called Xitou, meaning the origin of a stream in Chinese.

There are two main road s lead to the outside of the hamlet : the vertical Zhang N an R oa d and the horizontal Yuan C ao R oa d (the county highway 148, the artery which connects Yuanlin and Caotun, starts from Bi S han R oa d in Cao T un , strides over Xitou Bridge on Mao L uo Stream , goes northwestwards at Xitou H amlet and arrives at Yuanlin after Dazhu and Zhonglun.) Besides, Bi Y uan R oa d connects Baodoucuo of Xitou to the neighboring Dian Z ai Street of Zhen gan hamlet.
